Selling items by length

Hi there.  I have an item set up that I sell by the foot.  When a customer goes to the online store and orders a 10' piece and then orders a 5' piece, They just get a cart for 15'.  Is there a way to break these pieces into the exact lines that they ordered....  a 10' piece and a 5' piece....  These items need to be custom cut to length so just getting the total footage they are ordering doesn't help....

Thanks!

Hey @dustyadvance,

First, I want to welcome you to the Community.

After looking at your account, we do not see an example of what you described above. To provide the most accurate information, please provide a screenshot of an order described above. Along with your website URL and the correct item names?

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hi @RobynR Thanks for looking into this.  I have posted a screenshot of the item I am trying to set up.  I have a per foot price.  If I add a line of 20' ,  Then I add a 2nd item of 15' when I look at the cart I don't get 2 items...one for 20' and one for 15'  I just get a single item in my cart for 35'.  It just added the lines together which doesn't help if we are custom cutting items for people as the order was for 2 pieces... 1 at 20' and 1 at 15' but the cart shows an order for 1 piece at 35'....

Thanks

Dusty

@dustyadvance, you're welcome! I thank you for your patience as I investigated this.

Due to the setup as one item, they are all grouped together in the cart.

There are two possible solutions to address this issue. You can either include a notes section allowing customers to input their custom measurements, or you can create separate items for each foot, such as "Custom Eavestrough Delivery 1'", "Custom Eavestrough Delivery 10'", "Custom Eavestrough Delivery 15'", and so on.

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.  This is disappointing. I had thought about the adding notes section but was concerned if the notes the customer writes don't match the footage that they order....  It really takes the automation out of the whole process.  We can try this for now while we look for another solution.  Are you able to add notes to a particular line item so they can do this...  I would suggest this as a new feature though.  If the software has the ability to sell by the unit but then combines them all back together I would think for many retailers it defeats the purpose...

Regardless thanks for your responsiveness on this matter.
