Hi @posgear!

Great question! After running this by the Square Online team, they confirmed that the search feature on your Square Online site only lets you search by keywords, such as a product name or description using ?q= in the link.

It doesn’t support combining search terms with categories in the same link (for example: q=fred, category=beer won’t work). So, you can search for something like “fred,” but you can’t narrow that down to just a specific category using the URL.

If you're looking to guide customers to specific categories, a better option would be to create direct links to those category pages in your site navigation, instead of relying on search.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you'd like help setting that up.

Laurie, Thanks for the reply
thru trial and error I determined this capability was not available
pity as driving customers through a hierarchy of category pages
is clunky and search is definitely the superior and faster path

I have developed a work around using TAGs in the description

It's a free product so of course it will have limitations
it fortunately has just enough flexibility for me to "fake it"

thanks again
