Recent "Manage all of your online items in one central place" message - Category handling concern

We recently received the above titled message which states "In 30 days, Square Online item creation and management will move to the Square Item Library. No changes will be made to your items, categories or website as a result of this change."

it also includes "Item and Category creation and editing will be redirected from the Editor to the Square Item Library, which is where you will now arrange how categories will be displayed on your Shop All and Order Online pages. The Square Online Editor will now be focused entirely on site design and content creation."

We use almost entirely different categories in the Item Library vs Online - hopefully these will be preserved in the move? Will there now be the ability to set different categories for Online and Shop?

Thanks.

Hi @Cobbles,

Thanks for reaching out for clarity on this, it’s an understandable concern.

As you know, till now item and category management were housed somewhat separately for POS and Online. While this was ideal for some Sellers, for others it resulted in unnecessary repetition.

With this update, you’ll no longer need to create and manage your online categories separately, as you’ll be able to manage the visibility of your categories and items within a single library.

Your existing categories will remain unchanged, and you will still be able to continue managing your categories separately, albeit from the same place on your Dashboard.

You’ll find more details on the wider changes from this article. And for the updates specific to Category management, you can take a look at the overview here

I hope this helps to alleviate any concerns. But if you have any questions, just let me know.
