Multiple variations, not notifying buyer which variation is oversold

I am selling an item in my online store with multiple variations.  Shoppers are adding multiple items to their cart with different flavors/variations.  If a variation is oversold (say I have 5 in stock and they add 7) they are getting an alert on check out that they need to remove items from their cart due to insufficient stock, however it isn't telling them which flavor/variation is oversold only the item.  How do I fix this?

This is a known gap in Square Online's checkout. When a customer hits the stock limit, it tells them the item is oversold but doesn't specify which variation — really unhelpful when they've got 5 different flavours in the cart.

There's no fix on the seller side unfortunately — it's a Square Online checkout limitation. The error message should ideally say 'Strawberry flavour only has 5 in stock' but it just says the item is oversold.

Two workarounds:
1. Set stock alerts low enough that you rarely actually run out. If you keep variations above a minimum, customers are less likely to hit the limit
2. Add a note on the product page for popular items: 'If you see a stock error at checkout, try reducing quantities of individual flavours'

Not great solutions, I know. This would be a solid feature request for the Feedback section — variation-level error messages in checkout.

Thank you.  I was hoping it was a simple setting on my end that I was missing.  😞  I do hope they update this option in the future.  It seems like it would be a simply thing to incorporate.  I know their competition does this.
