While investigating customer complaints about brokenness for our online order website, I discovered several items where the modifiers displayed on the website are not consistent with how they are set up in our Items catalog.
Here are the settings as saved in our Item catalog:
And here is what displays on the site for the same item:
What's worse is that about half of our menu items with the same Modifier settings display correctly online. And the other half do not. A few weeks ago (or at least last time I checked) they all displayed correctly. Make it make sense!
Square Online and our catalog run into random piddly bugs like this quite frequently and it frustrates our customers and wastes our time. It makes the product feel fragile.
We've held off jumping ship to Toast due to longevity on the platform, but stupid stuff like this continues to test our patience. PLEASE PLEASE put the work in to make Square Online not suck.
@rayraysjwI use this modifier setup a lot and honestly love how flexible it is—but I’ve also gotten tripped up a few times when things didn’t line up between the modifier set and the item-level overrides.
Here’s what might be happening (and it’s caught me before):
The screenshot is where you are customizing the modifier directly on the item page in your online dashboard after you added to your item?
Square lets you set the “customer can only select one” flag at the modifier set level, but then you can override that at the individual item by adjusting the min/max. The first one automatically selects the first choice. Then you can change it at the item level with the min max. I do this with side items often where I require 1 choice with no limit on other choices. That way they can choose a "no gravy" along with a mashed potatoes side with a charge without having 2 modifier sets.
So I would check the modifier tab and the modifier settings to see if that flag is turned on. This may be why it is selecting the first one and picking up your 2nd one you set. If you need the 2nd one to always be chosen I would move it to top. Otherwise if it changes, I would set up 2 different ones. 1 with the flag at the modifier level for the tortilla and a 2nd one that you customize for the items you need to do. Otherwise turn off the slider on the modifier tab and edit the modifier customization at the item level. Tedious but worth it.
