Meta Commerce Manager & Checkout URL

Hello Community!

Recently made the decision to utilize Square Online and Facebook/Instagram Shops. I've been able to use the Meta for Business integration to create the catalog on Commerce Manager, however, as I go through the onboarding to create the Shop, I've been having issues with the "Enter the link (URL) to your checkout page."

Each time I've added in either the link to the cart or checkout from the Square website, Meta Commerce Manager states "There are potential issues with your checkout URL."

So far, neither Meta nor Square support has been able to help me understand why there is currently an issue. Has anyone else experienced this?

Meta provides this article as "help" for the URL compatibility. I wonder if there are issues with the listings instead of the URL itself.

Re: Meta Commerce Manager & Checkout URL

I understand, @KraftyKoopa and I am sorry to hear you are still having issues with this.

I reached out to our eCommerce team about this and they said the only suggestion they have is you could potentially try to link it your cart page instead of the checkout page: https://kraftykoopa.square.site/s/cart.

They said that my fix it for you. If not, unfortunately they said Meta would be the ones to troubleshoot more.

Hi @KraftyKoopa, thank you for your post. I see you are new to the Square Community, welcome!

I am not super familiar with Meta's Commerce Manager, but I can definitely look into this for you.

Just to make sure I have this correct, are you trying to enter that URL you mentioned from your Square website or the Meta Commerce Manager?

Right there with you. I have 6-7 hours in as well and when it gets escalated to "advanced engineering" I get an abrupt "they're working on it with Meta".... I get it's a massive change to their checkout process. BUT if you want to retain your micro-biz base....figure it out or stop promoting it and cut our subscription fee for us losing a channel.

yeah - they're not working on it with meta, i'd bet my pinky toe on it. meta doesn't care to adjust their software to line up with square's needs. square has just decided that "customer support" is not worth spending real money on. it will limit their growth, undoubtedly, which is a shame because for the most part, their product is good.

Anyone find a solution to this?  I am having the exact same issue!  I don't understand why this doesn't work Square advertises that they integrate with Facebook Shops but they don't since their checkout process does not allow for Facebook to send over cart information.

I've already moved my site to shopify. It's so much better. No issues at all with Meta sync.

i unfortunately have all of the square hardware in our brick-and-mortar location, so the switch would be very expensive. do you see may sales on meta?

Wondering if anyone has an update on the Square-Meta integration? Right now I've gotten quotes to have an "expert" help and frankly, it's way too much for my microbusiness. I get it's a big code change, but if it's a promoted feature and still available in item set up....where's Square on the fix for this?

I have been frustrated with this issue for a long time. Meta/Facebook Shops originally (a few years ago) had the option to display products pulled from a Square catalog and to check out through your website. It worked fine. Then, Meta made it mandatory that all purchase transactions through Facebook/Instagram shops be processed on its e-commerce platform to "streamline" checkout. Meta then decided to make "checkout on website" the ONLY checkout option and requires a "checkout endpoint URL."  Here we are, still not working as expected. And, I had previously tried both of the suggested endpoint checkout URLs, the one ending with "cart" and the one ending with "checkout."

I also got the "it's a Square issue" from Meta and "it's a Meta issue" from Square support last time I traveled down the tech support rabbit hole. I'm about to switch to another e-commerce platform that, hopefully, handles integrations better.  It's still going to be a major chore to get another site up and running.

I have an IT degree, and I still don't understand why these two aren't working better together. And, I'm tired of researching both to find an answer. It's like the UTM parameters and values aren't being passed from the FB/Instagram Shop carts to populate the Square cart, which is preventing this feature from working.

After forgetting about it for a while to save my sanity and actually focus on more important aspects of my small business, I decided to see if an easy solution or an update had occurred. After going back through Meta settings and visiting and resetting the Meta connection in the Square dashboard with no real change, I searched Square support for "What is the Square Online checkout endpoint URL?" This is what I found (See screenshot).

I may be reading it wrong, but if populating the Square Online cart with items from Facebook (Meta)/Instagram carts is not possible, this needs to be clearly communicated on Square's end without having to search endlessly for fixes. Most businesses that use these types of services don't have time to spend trying to find solutions that should be within the service providers' wheelhouse.
