Marking items as sold out.

I only use the online store feature of square.  I noticed in the "What's New" List that there is one for Inventory "Easily manage item availability from POS or Dashboard — mark items sold out, set stock counts, or toggle inventory tracking with just a few taps."

 

However when I go to my online store and go to item inventory I do not have the option to mark something as sold out. This would be a handy feature as I only sell mostly 1 of each item. As it currently stands it just show's Out of Stock. 

 

If I sell something outside of square I have to manually set the item inventory to Recount Inventory to show out of stock items.

Square Champion here 👋 You’re not missing the button — it actually doesn’t exist (yet) for Online Store–only sellers.

 

That “mark item as sold out” update applies mainly to POS workflows, not the Online Store editor. For online items, Square still relies on inventory counts, so the only way to show something as sold out is to set stock to 0 (usually via inventory recount).

 

If you sell one-of-a-kind items outside of Square, unfortunately the manual recount step is still required. It’s clunky, and a lot of sellers have asked for a true “Mark as sold out” toggle for online listings.

 

You’re understanding it correctly — it’s a feature gap, not user error.
