Free shipping coupon not valid for payment links

Hey

Firstly, I’ve got so much beef with payment links, so if you’re in the same boat, feel free to head over to this link and bump it up:

the current issue: free shipping coupon does not work for payment link.

Error message: “this coupon is valid but not applicable to the order”

The coupon is applied to entire sale with 0 restrictions. 

I have tried various things and there doesn’t seem to be any clear problem

• flat rate discount coupon and percentage discount coupons work on payment link
• free shipping coupon works on online store 
• created a brand new free shipping coupon and that one also didn’t work 
• inputting coupon before and after entering address doesn’t work
• using coupon on a hidden or a visible item with payment link doesn’t work
• standard and express shipping don’t work

I know the shipping profiles of payment links have been changed since implementation, so I’m going to assume this was a forgotten feature that was never updated to the change. Please fix ASAP (along with my previous post that’s ‘open’)

You’re not missing anything and your testing is solid.

Free shipping coupons don’t currently work with Payment Links. It’s a limitation of the Payment Link checkout, not a setup issue. That’s why % and flat discounts apply, but free shipping works only in the Online Store.

The error message you’re seeing (“valid but not applicable”) is exactly what happens when the checkout flow doesn’t support that coupon type.

Right now the only workarounds are:

• Build shipping into the item price for payment links
• Use a % or flat discount instead
• Send customers to the Online Store when free shipping is needed

I agree it’s confusing and feels unfinished — this has been raised as a feature request more than once. You’re definitely not doing anything wrong.
