@SBD Low key workaround, grab you a free new item icon or graphic and just paste it onto your item picture and use it for the first picture of the item. That will effectively do it. I have uploaded the "new item photo" and a second "item photo" and then all you have to do is delete the first picture after a couple weeks.
Not as convenient as what you would like, but still effective.
