Item/Category-Level Weekend & Public Holiday Surcharges

It would be extremely helpful if Square could allow merchants to set weekend and public holiday surcharges at an item or category level, rather than applying the surcharge universally across the entire online ordering site.

Our business operates both a restaurant and a grocery/retail section through the same Square account. For example, we would need to apply a weekend/public holiday surcharge to our restaurant menu items, while excluding grocery products and retail/display items.

Ideally, merchants should be able to select:

• Specific items to which the surcharge applies
• Specific categories to which the surcharge applies
• Categories/items that should be excluded

This would make the feature much more practical for businesses like ours that operate multiple types of products through Square Online.

This functionality would make Square Online significantly more suitable for our business, and we hope it can be considered for a future update.

Hello @hotchillies .   I believe you are correct in that it is not possible to do a surcharge by day of the week, but it is possible to do a discount by day of the week. 

What I'm wondering is if it would be realistic for you to enter all your prices at the weekend price, and then create an automatic rule (by item or category) for the rest of the week to have the discount applied.   Is this a possible solution for you?

We are currently using the weekend/public holiday surcharge feature, and it works well for our business.

The main limitation for us is that we cannot choose which items or categories the surcharge applies to.

Our business operates both a restaurant and a grocery/retail section through the same Square Online store. We would like to apply the weekend/public holiday surcharge to our restaurant items, while excluding our grocery and retail products.

Ideally, this could be as simple as the GST setting — for each item or category, simply having an option such as “surcharge applicable / not applicable.”

For us, this would be much more useful than setting higher weekend prices and applying weekday discounts.

So the feature we are really hoping Square will add is item- or category-level inclusion/exclusion for automatic surcharges.

great work around @SVLFever !  then it might entice people to shop during the week because they can see their "savings" on the reciept.
