Back in early 2023, I used to be able to control sorting of products shown on Square Online Website (the Weebly hosted site.) For example, I could set it up to that coffee shows up above Coke so customers see coffee first.
Later in 2024, the menu management page on the Online side is 'merged' with the Square catalog in the main Square Dashboard. This seems like a good idea, as I now only need to manage products in one place. The online 'edit' page (a snippet shown below) even suggests that the products will be shown in 'the order they appear in your catalog.' However, the products in my 'catalog' (which I took to mean the Item Library in Square Dashboard,) shows all products sorted alphabetically by product name. I can't control or change the sort order. On top of that, the sort order of the items in Square online is not alphabetically. In other words, the sorting of the same products in those two places are not in sync and I have no control over either of them.
I would think that this is a feature that is needed by most merchants. Luckily I only have a handful of items on the site so I can live with this random sort order. But if I add 50-60 different items, how can I sort them? Did I miss anything simple on the site? Any help would be appreciated.
Ok. If you go to Online > Edit Site. Go to the page with your items.
If you click on the item section, at the top is a button that says, "Arrange Items". There will be a drop down that allows you to arrange the items on the page by Price, Name, Popularity, Newest, or a Custom Arrangement. I think this will also become the default sort of the page for the customer.
It has been 7 months since my original post so I figured I'd revisit this subject to see if Square has made any changes. In short, it seems that nothing has changed and I still have this issue.
I tried to follow PERRONETECH's tips but the 'Arrange Items' menu isn't there. The steps to reproduce my issue:
1. Sign in to Square Dashboard (https://app.squareup.com/dashboard/)
2. On the left panel, choose Online -> Online Store. I am taken to: https://square.online/app/home/users/...
3. On the left panel, choose Website -> Edit Site. I am taken to the Website editor at https://square.online/app/website/users/...
4. On the left panel, select Order Online from the drop down, then choose Item List -> View Items. My online order page with the list of items shows up. The left panel looks like this (same as what I saw back in Dec 2024):
There is no option to modify the order in which the items are shown on the online ordering page. The blue info message tells me I can manage the item order in 'your catalog' in the Dashboard. If I click 'Manage Items,' it takes me back to the Item library in the Square Dashboard here: https://app.squareup.com/dashboard/items/library
The item library shows all of my food items in alphabetical orders. There is no option to arrange items there either.
I still cannot believe there Square does not offer such a simple feature to allow merchants to sort item orders, and that I am the only merchant in the entire world with this problem. So, I still hope that someone will just tell me that I miss a simple step in setting things up somewhere. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Not an option for us either. What a ridiculously simple feature, to sort items however you choose, whether by name, price, or custom, and there are no options available for any of it.

Not there for me. Arrange Items is not there when I click Item List on my Order Online page. Do you only offer shipping? We only offer pickup and delivery, I wonder if that's why? (I have screenshots but they're failing to upload)
You skipped a step or two.
After going to the website editor, use the drop down on the top to go to your category pages like so:
I'm going to choose "e-Bikes" which will give me all of my two wheeled bike options. Next I will see this:
Now I will go to item list, and you'll see this:
Now I will click on the "Arrange Items" and you'll see this:
Now click the "Arrangement" drop down and you'll get a list of sort options:
Choose what you want, and then the page will automatically change to that. This will be the default your customers will see.
