I'm trying to add a 3% fee to the online orders ( allFulfillment types).
Thanks in advance
Hey there @riverviewwinejc. Unless I have missed a recent memo, Square is not allowing this right now. A little history is in order here. Mastercard and Visa have been cracking down on card surcharges for the past year or so, especially with card processors like Square, Clover, etc. This is because many sellers have been breaking the rules and surcharging all cards, which is not allowed. For example, surcharges are not allowed on debit cards or prepaid cards (this is a Visa/MC rule, not Square’s).
Anyway, the last time this subject was addressed by Square, we were informed that surcharge-type service charges would not be allowed and would be removed from our accounts, if found. At that time, it was mentioned that Square was working on a compliant solution and would let us know when it was ready. So far, like I said, I haven’t seen any follow-up to say this is so.
Having said all of that, many (if not most) Square sellers have decided to go the route of just adding 3% to our CoGS calculations and increasing our prices accordingly. Yes, this does mean that cash paying customers also pay the additional 3%. I’ve been doing this for over a decade now and never had even one customer realize, or complain. If that is somehow important to your customers (or you think they would notice), then you can offer cash discounts (assuming that treating cash and card customers differently is legal in your state, which it isn’t in all states).

I like the idea of adding the 3%. However, if a customer purchases two items they will be charged 6%, correct? What is the work around for this?
No. 3% on every item is still 3% for the cart. You don’t need a workaround. Example:
Item 1, Original Price $10, New Price $10.30
Item 2, Original Price $20, New Price $20.60
One of each of these items totals $30.90, or an extra $0.90
$0.90 divided by $30 = 0.03, or 3%
If you want to recoup the processing fee for each item, you have to add the processing fee to every item.
