How do I find who the merchant is by the name on a bank statement? Why does Square hide this info?
Hi @LH333,
The information that appears on a bank statement varies by the information the seller has entered when creating their account. If there is an issue with a payment, I recommend contacting the seller by using the contact information on your receipt or by filing a dispute.
Please let me know if you have any other questions by replying to this thread.
I'm so confused about the responses to the questions I see like this one. I have a similar situation, I can look up a receipt in the receipt inquiry function at squareup.com but when I view that receipt, there is not enough info to go on to contact the merchant. The transaction is many months old, and while I don't think it is invalid or fraudulent (I have no reason to think that) I just cannot place the amount or the name of the square merchant (it is too vague) and the receipt doesn't provide an email or phone number or business address, or anything helpful beyond a first name and an initial.
Is there really no other info Square will provide about a merchant?
Hi there @rgtichy - it sounds like you already used this tool in order to view more receipt information.
You can view whatever business-related information the business owner has provided and has chosen to display on their receipt by using this tool. If you get in touch with our team directly, they may be able to reach out to the business owner by email to let them know that you'd like to get in touch with them. Feel free to send our team a message here.
Thanks!
Your team does not give out the name of the merchant for privacy reasons. I had tried that. Someone could have "ABC" as their store name that shows up on a consumer's statement leaving the consumer with no real info about the business and not certain if it is fraudulent. Square should at least require a real name of business and definitely phone number.
If you do not recognize a charge on your bank statement, we recommend contacting your bank or credit card company in order to dispute the charge. After a dispute is filed, Square will receive notification of the billing dispute from your bank or credit card company. At that time, we’ll work with your bank or card issuer to resolve the dispute as quickly as possible, @LH333.
