How can a make a coupon that can effect service charges?

Since square doesn't offer the option to pay on delivery, I built in a 100% coupon based on advice from other threads so that my customers can pay in cash. But the problem is I want to add a service charge from me walking out to give them the item, but it exists as its own thing and remains untouched whether its built in as a tax, service charge, or general charge. How can a make a 100% coupon that can effect the service charge so they can pay all in cash?

Hi @GabiTMD.  Actually, the issue you have raised is just the first one to accomplish what you want.  But…..

First, I want to make sure I understand you.  You have an order something like this:

Item $10.00

Service Charge $2.00 (I’m assuming you are using a flat dollar service charge type)

Coupon defined as 100% off of all orders

Total to pay is showing $2.00, but you want it to be $0.00

If so, currently this can’t be done since coupon codes don’t work on flat-dollar service charges.

Honestly, I have no clue of a viable work around to the fact that Square does not allow cash-paid online orders.  But the fact is that they don’t, and this is one feature I would not hold my breath for.  I asked for it over 10 years ago when I first started with Square and nothing has changed.

If it is really so inconvenient for you to walk out and give the customer their item that it is worth another charge, I’m not sure I know of a way to make this happen.

Even if we could help you fix the first problem, a second one would then pop up.  Service charges are either added to all Square Online orders, or they are added to none.  There’s no way to say “add this service charge IF coupon code “x” is used, or IF any other condition is met.  They are just automatically added to online orders, or they are never added to online orders.

The only real option as things stand is not to charge the “I had to walk out and hand the item to the customer” service charge.  Either that, or just increase all of your prices to build that into the CoGS.

I’m sorry I can’t be more help than this.  Let me know if something I said there doesn’t make sense to you.  It’s kind of a complicated answer because it has to be.
