How can I make 'available items' the default on our online ordering site?

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "Anyone know how, or if, we can make 'available items' the default on our online ordering site?"

 

I'd like customers to be able to see what's currently available, not all items, when they open our site. We have some categories that are only available certain days, and I don't always want the view to be cluttered with items that aren't currently available that day. Is there a way for me to set that? I don't want it set permanently by Square, but have the option to switch which one I need it to be based on the time of year (when we open pre-ordering during the holidays, I'd like all items to be seen).

Hi there! I might need more details on your setup of items to know what you're asking, but this might be a starting point for ya. You can go to Square Online > Items > Item Preferences > Item Statuses >> then you can toggle off the "Display out of stock items on site" option to hide anything that you don't have stock for currently.

Hi,

 

I am also wondering the same thing. We own a cafe that offers takeaway during the day and some evenings. The menus are different. I would prefer for customers to land on the page of products that are actually available at any given time rather than potentially being confused by seeing all of our items together. RE. the reply given above, this still seems like it would require manual input to make it work - I am hoping for a set and forget solution since the times and menus for our business are regular and recurring if that makes sense.

@paragoncafesh I want to clarify that the Best Answer listed above is a setting you only need to change once, not something that requires repeated adjustments.

Thanks @RobynR, I understand. The items that I want to be 'hidden' when the customer first lands on our page are not necessarily 'out of stock's, just not available for that service. They still need to appear on our site as we also want customers to be able to order in advance for future services, for example, in the evening for our early morning coffee service so it is not so much a matter of making them disappear completely as it is having an accurate picture of what is available presently and also in future as an option. 

 

I contacted a Square representative via FB messenger today who advised that the 'All Items' is the only available default setting for online product listings at present.

 

I will make the suggestion in the Ideat room as you have directed.

Is this change on the roadmap? IMHO it makes much more sense to default the menu to available items, if the menu is showing items that are not available for service it will be very confusing for customers - so then what is the point of having menu availability for certain times? Currently I am manually turning items off and on so my customers aren't ordering items that they will not be able to get until days from now. 

There should at least be an option to hide categories when they are not available.
