Gift cards and discounts on services online

Hi there,

is there any reason why customers can’t use the gift cards or discount codes for services? When is this going to be an option? We mainly provide lessons and our customers are confused as there is no box at checkout to add any code… please help

Hey @tr7skatepark, thanks for flagging this!

At the moment, it is not possible to use gift cards or discount codes during checkout on Square Online. This is quite a popular feature request, so I'll make sure to pass this over to our product development team who will take it into consideration. Also, be sure to check out how feature requests work in Square.

I fully understand how this would be beneficial for you and your business, so we thank you so much for your feedback on this. We hope we'll be able to provide a positive update soon, so do make sure to keep an eye out on our Seller Community. We'll be sure to announce any new features here.

If a customer purchases an eGift Card for themselves or someone else from my Square website, where is the recipient going to redeem it if not by buying something from the same website?

Thank you for sharing your feedback and I completely understand your frustration here @tr7skatepark and @tonydow.

Just to clarify, if you are using Square Online to sell products, customers will see the option to enter a discount code or gift card number at check out. Here's how the checkout page will look for them. The ability to redeem eGift Card should be enabled automatically. If customers are not seeing this option, can you send us a link to your website @tonydow so that we can take a further look on our end here.

At the moment, however, it is not possible for customers to enter a discount code or gift card number when booking online for the first time through your Square Appointments online site. However, if a customer has purchased a gift card previously, you can save the card to their profile. When the customer is booking online, they can signin to their profile and choose to pay with one of their card on file. The gift card should come up as an option here.

Alternatively, rather than paying online, customers can use their gift card to pay in-person through the Square Appointments app on your mobile device. To do so from the app:

  1. Tap the appointment in your calendar. Note: The sale will be associated with the staff member the appointment was booked with.
  2. Tap Review and Check Out.
  3. Add any additional items or services > select Charge. Appointment information will automatically carry over from the booked appointment.
  4. Scroll down on the payment options screen. You will see your the option to pay with Gift Card
  5. Tap Charge.
  6. Confirm the payment by tapping Charge one more time.

The ability to use Gift Card with Square Appointments online booking is a feature request that our Product team are aware of and are working on. However, bringing these features to fruition often takes an ample amount of time and effort from our engineers. We want to ensure that our releases are not just surface level products, but the best all-around resources to help you grow your business.

While we hope to be able to provide a positive update for you here soon, we unfortunately do not have a definitive timeline to share here, just yet. Again, we really appreciate your patience and sticking with us. We will bounce back here as soon as we have more to share.

Hi Skyler,

Thanks for answering... at least this time I got an answer!

Already requested this more than a year ago when Appointments was released and still no news??

Thanks @tonydow for making my question even more clear!

It makes NO SENSE to offer them if there is no way of redeem them online? Not even the option to add a custom field at checkout where it says "if you have a eGift card please give us a call" or something?? More customers are starting to question this and I am just trying my best to see if there is anything else you can do about this?? Or do I just have to move to another software?

I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE ANY IDEA OF THE BENEFITS THIS WILL BRING TO EVERYONE NOT JUST MY BUSINESS!!! IF YOU DID MAYBE THIS FEATURE WOULD HAVE BEEN ADDED A YEAR AGO!!

SORRY BUT RUNNING REALLY LOW ON PATIENCE WITH SQUARE LATELY.

@k_atie I too have had customers that have purchased an eGift Card contact me enquiring why they cannot redeem them on my online shop. Could you please explain the logic behind this and not just say it isn’t possible. How are they supposed to use them?
