Frustrations with Featured items, categories & sub categories

Wow I am struggling with building this online store in Square! I am not a novice, and have built several websites in my past, but this one is, in my opinion, the least user-friendly format. I have many questions that weren’t answered through google and trouble-shooting. 

Why is the category called “Featured Items”, but not “Items”? Are ALL of my items supposed to be “featured” items? Where do the non-featured items (aka my “full menu”) go? 

I thought maybe I was wasting time and possibly entering things incorrectly by entering each item as a “featured item“, then filling in all the item details. So I tried creating a category and simply “choosing items” for each category. BUT, no - these items are not automatically listed in featured items, and I cannot seem to edit them individually from within the category. 

 

Also, when I create categories, they display on my home page but when I click on the link it takes me to the “Order Online” page, which lists every single item I have for sale. What is the point of having a category if it only brings you to the full list of items anyway? Then, when I preview this “order online” page and click on an item - 9 out of 10 times nothing at all happens. It doesn’t go anywhere! Does this mean my customers will have the same reaction, or is this a glitch in my preview mode? 

And, three of my eight categories just don’t show up on that second page where everything is listed. The category and it’s’ items seem to only exists on the home page. None of these items are listed on my “Order Online” Page. There are no variable prices, and the items aren’t hidden.

 

So, do all of my items need to first be entered under “featured items” in order to show up within the category on the “Online Order” page? 

Finally, what is the point of sub categories? I selected the sub category option but it doesn’t seem to have any effect. “Beverages“ was supposed to be a category with “alcoholic“ and “non-alcoholic“ as sub categories, but instead they all sit side by side as seemingly equal categories on my home page. 

I have even more questions and mild frustrations, but I won’t waste any more of yours or my time and money. I need to get this store up and running as soon as possible but I find these issues are bringing everything to a halt. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, there! Thank you so much for the feedback and I'm sorry to hear that this has been such a frustrating experience. To start, you don’t need to add everything to featured items first. It sounds like you have the right idea on how to create items/categories and display them, but are getting confused on the set up. Can you confirm your site URL so that I can take a closer look?

I wish I could help, but I am also frustrated.  I can spend hours just trying to get something to work for my SQUARE online store.  

 

I was able to upload images and descriptions of my items by clicking create a new item.  I did that before posting my featured items section.  I am now trying to post images into the featured items boxes and am stumped.  SQUARE's support is lousy.
