Fixing Duplicate Categories in Square Online

Hello

I am setting up my online ordering system and I have duplicate categories and duplicate menu items?  I made sure the duplicate page button wasn't clicked.  Anyone with any clue please help before I chuck my computer out the window.  Square is no help at all!!!!

From what you’ve described, one common reason Sellers see duplicate categories or items on their online site (especially when using Menus) is that both their Menus and Categories are set to appear in multiple sales channels, for example, both in POS and online.

Here’s what I’d suggest checking first:

Menus:

1. Make sure the items and categories you want to sell online are already part of your Menu.

2. Confirm that your Menu is enabled for online sales channels (and not just POS).


Categories:

1. Review your Categories page and check whether any categories have also been made available online in addition to your Menu.

2. If you see any duplicates, remove online availability from the category that overlaps with your Menu (this is often where the duplication starts).

Once you’ve confirmed those two areas, your site should display correctly without those extra categories showing up.

I found this to be an artifact of the change to enable categories to sync between POS and Online. It was really irritating and I found I had to check and redo the categories on everything!
