Domain Registration - Here or There?

I have finally decided to set up a website along with changing my business name to something more reflective of my work. I want to use a custom domain and found that what I want is available. I haven't registered it anywhere yet and trying to decide where to do it ... either with Square or another registrar like GoDaddy. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to either?

I know that I will need a paid plan to use the custom domain along with the name registration cost. It will cost a bit more to register with Square, but it's not a significant amount. Are there any other costs that I'm not aware of?

Thank you for any help or advice for a newbie.

Hi @SheilaWhite

As a business owner, I highly recommend keeping your domain registration separate from your POS platform. While having 'one pane of glass' within Square is convenient, keeping them independent gives you much more autonomy and flexibility over your DNS and technical settings.

I do not believe there should be any additional costs other than the domain fee.

Having full control over your brand and domain is vital. I’ve found it’s much better to manage it through a dedicated registrar like Squarespace or GoDaddy—it ensures you have the control you need if you ever face challenges or decide to make changes down the road.
