Coupons in Square Marketing

Coupons in square.online are shutting down and we have to migrate our coupons to Square Marketing.

I'm not happy about it for a few reasons:

  1. I can't use dashes in Square Marketing for coupons which makes most of my stationery obsolete. I use ONLINE-10 and NEXT-10 on my leaflets and cards to encourage customers to go to my website after a purchase and buy something at a discount.
  2. I can't limit the coupon use per customer. Customers can use the coupon over and over.
  3. I can't set a minimum spend to a coupon so that if I issue a $10 coupon, they can buy lower value items for free.

How are other sellers coping with this? Or am I misunderstanding something?

I am seriously considering going to Shopify. The hardware purchase will be less than my loss in stationery alone.

@blueflowerart ,

This does look like a step backward.

There is a fairly lively discussion on the US product update here:

Important update to your coupons on Square Online - The Seller Community

I'd suggest adding your voice there. It looks like at least some of the functionality may be available by the cutoff date, but it's not 100% clear

Thank you @lawnbrook . I've posted on the US forum.

Hi,

We have the same problem, although to a lesser extent.  My #1 problem this morning is the removal of the ability to offer free shipping at a lower threshold for a coupon.  ie we normally give free shipping for over $180, but occasionally have a promotion for free shipping over $50.

It works beautifully in the online coupons but just isn't an option in the new marketing.

@Seamus have you had any info on this?

I've bailed to Shopify. It took a few weeks of work to change over but I'm much happier now with what I can do with my shop. So much faster loading too, that was a nice bonus. I'm just about to make permanent redirections to some of the QR codes I had in place.

The functionality Square has removed is, apparently, going to be a paid subscription. I've already been forced to a more expensive plan because they discontinued the one I was on, so I might as well pay for something decent with full functionality than a bait and switch experience with Square.

Hi @mhweft,

I'm just jumping in to offer my take on this. From how I understand it, we are releasing the majority of features that were available from Online Coupons with the Square Marketing Coupons release on March 25. Some existing coupon features will be absent from the initial launch. For a comprehensive list, you can navigate to the 'What are some limits with marketing coupons?' question on the FAQ page.

I believe your use case would fall under the minimum-order coupons, which is a feature that will be introduced following the initial launch.

@blueflowerart I appreciate your transparency and the feedback you have provided around these changes. I've ensured to flag this to our Product Team for consideration. Feel free to check back in with us in the future to ask about these features, as we're constantly building and changes our products based on feedback like this. In the meantime, I wish you all the best over at Shopify!
