Checkout Discount Code Creation

I am trying something that should be simple, give a customer who signs up for email newsletter a code to enter at checkout for 20% off their order.  Enter 'SAVE20%' and get 20% off the order. 

I've gone through these steps:

1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Discounts.
2. Click Create a Discount or select a discount to modify.
3. Enter the discount details—including the discount name, amount type (Amount, Percentage, Variable amount or Variable percentage), the amount and applicable locations.
4. Click Save.

Testing it I get the error message:  'SAVE20% does not match a valid coupon code or gift card.' 

Am I missing something?

I have also mentioned that this is a needed policy and have been unable to get any traction on moving it forward.

@isabelle any idea if this is still in the plans or is it never coming? TLDR - Promo codes work online but not in store and is quite a disappointment for myself as well

Hey @kricklewoodfarm  – I appreciate your patience and for flagging this. I escalated this to the Advanced Support Team, and they were able to successfully use the 20%OFFNEWSLETTER code. Are you still experiencing issues on your end? Our team doesn’t see any active marketing campaigns or automation tied to this, nor any other coupons with that name in our system. Let me know if the issue persists.

Thank you, it is working correctly now, thank you.  We were planning to set up a newsletter with Klaviyo and would include that in our messaging but wanted to be sure the discount worked before we set it up.

I am probably missing a trick here (maybe you have a different dashboard layout in your territory), but do you not create discount coupons in the marketing section? So we use promotional coupons which we add to our newsletters, printed material etc. I thought the create a discounts in the discount section was for auto discounts either for the POS or online if activated?

Take a look at the marketing section on your dashboard, under the coupons section and create a coupon. You can create the marketing and promotional coupons here.

They @doc_choc this wasnt working previously - it is working now I just checked on my POS - I had last tried this in August around the migration and it was riddled with bugs and half completes 🙂

@JTPets so can we generate coupon codes using the higher level functionality in the discount tab for redeeming either online or at the POS in the items/discounts section? If so I will need to try this out.

I created a promo code for 15% off in marketing with a 1 time per customer redemption and it allowed me to use it on the pos under redeem customer reward
