Categories Updates & Issues

Warning to users:

Last Friday (14th Feb) I downloaded my items, made some changes, and uploaded it again... and lost ALL my online categories for my items!!! Luckily I managed to reverse the upload.

Then on Saturday night, I downloaded my items again and noticed the there is a new column in the spreadsheet for categories, with multiple categories in it!  I thought YAY! This is great as I have a few thousand items and each is in multiple categories.  I also downloaded the template to check on the formatting for it.  I then spent hours and hours this week making changes in the spreadsheet.

Went to upload it tonight...
1. It didn't upload a few times, but after splitting it into a few files I eventually got it up.

2. When I checked it didn't update the categories.  I then worked out that's because there is no matching field to line it up to!  So they've only half made the changes 😞  (And I've wasted time)

3. My reporting categories have now all stuffed up, because I used the new format e.g. Category > Sub Category.  Now I have a whole heap of new categories and all my old ones don't have anything in them!!!!

This is so frustrating!!!!  And this is on top of the fact everyone is now getting cheaper postage because my postage calculations that have been fine for years are now not working. 😡

I know products need to improve, and updates can have glitches, but this is getting ridiculous!

I'm wasting so much time trying to fix things that should not have broken in the first place. Thankfully I don't get a lot of online orders, but I was trying to make updates so I could do some advertising to generate more, but now I have to wait until these things can be fixed.

And now it's a new month and I need to add a heap more products with these issues still in place.

I just wanted to close the loop on this thread.

I see that an Application Support Engineer has reached out to you via email to confirm that they’ve implemented a fix. This fix allows you to export your Item Library, including Categories, and enables you to assign multiple categories to items.

It sounds like Square Online has been causing you some frustration lately, @Girlvic! I'm sorry to hear you're running into this issue.

I’d like to gather the feedback from your other thread about the shipping rates, along with the issues you're now experiencing with the bulk item upload feature, and have our team investigate whether these are related to ongoing changes to the Square Online platform.

Could you provide a screenshot that clearly shows the new column for multiple categories, ideally reflecting the categories from your previous screenshot? This will help me escalate the issue to my team and confirm the expected behaviour.

Hi Laurie, 

 

I can't screenshot over 2,000 items. Basically I did the reporting categories, which are all sub categories as it said to, using > to say to use the sub categories and instead of that, it made all new categories!!! 

 

As for the other categories for the website, it couldn't upload them as there was no field to match the column from the spreadsheet to. 

 

I'm trying to work with support to fix it but so far they've just told me how to upload, so I've sent them a video showing I do not have the option of uploading the categories column. 

 

I haven't heard back again from support regarding my shipping calculations issues. I've had to remove my free shipping option and my lower cost options and just have the middle range ones. It's been fine for 2 years and now suddenly doesn't work. 

 

So, basically nothing yet resolved.
