Can you limit item variations available on square online versus what you offer on POS?

I offer prints in three different sizes (options) with three different variations in my pos.  Each size/option has three variations; one for just the print, one for print and mat, and one for print mat and frame - each with individual pricing and inventory tracking.  All three are available when selling at shows in person using the pos, however when I sell these same items in the online store, I only want to offer a single variation (print only), and sell those based on the inventory available for the item.  I am unable to figure out how to limit the available variations in the drop down menu on the online store.  I tried using the 'toggle' to remove an item option/variation combination online, but it actually updates the item itself, and deletes the option/variation for the item.  Not what I am looking for.  I could of course create a separate item/option/variation for use only in the online store, but that obviously removes the ability to make use of accurate inventory management.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions, and I apologize if this topic has been addressed previously or the solution is so obvious you all shake your heads wondering how I missed it.  🙂

I reached out to our Square Online Store support team to get more insight to answer your question. Here's what they've let me know:

"Definitely sounds like a feature request is needed to get a more intuitive way to hide certain variations on the online store vs in-store. The Seller has already worked out the workarounds we offer for this (ie. creating a duplicate item specifically for online) but sadly that would be it."

Although this feature isn’t currently available with Square, it’s a great idea and I can see how it would be beneficial to your business.
