Can the shopping cart running total window be hidden while customer is adding items to order?

Several users have asked about the behavior of the shopping cart total popping up with the order total each time they add an item to the cart. They have to manually close it before they can continue making selections. This only happens on the desktop browser version, the mobile version does not have this issue.

Is there a way to disable this behavior?

There isn't a settings to turn that cart animation off. I can definitely see how it's annoying when shopping your site. Passing this up to the Product Team for visibility.
