Can a Single Item for Sale Include Tax in the Price?

Hello everyone! We are selling tickets for an event on our website - and would like the price to be a flat $25. Is there a way to include the tax charge in that price? I see you can tick a box that says "No taxes apply when selling this item via Square Online or Point of Sale." I assume that will keep the price at $25 even, but I was wondering if we will still pay taxes to Uncle Sam on each ticket sale (which I'm hoping we do because I don't want to have an issue if we were to be audited or something). I hope that makes sense, and thank you in advance!

Hello @sadmonkeytx , no matter if tax is included in the price, or added separately, you'll still be responsible for sending tax payment to your State; check with your taxing authority on what kind of items your specific State requires tax to be collected, some items are nontaxable depending on the State.

If you do not setup your tax to be "inclusive" , and you check the box that says "no taxes apply", that will achieve your goal of not changing the $25 final price, but then your Square report will not tell you and separate out what amount you should reserve for your tax payments. You can set your tax to be "inclusive", which means your total sale will still only be $25, but your sales reports in Square should breakout whatever your tax rate is set up. Check you Sales tax setup in your Square dashboard. Hope this makes sense, let me know if you need any more details on this.

_________

Taxes are included in your item prices: Be sure the Inclusive tax option is selected when creating or editing your taxes.

With Square you can have Multiple Sales Taxes, like different tax rates or the way they are applied.  Sale Price Plus Tax or Sale Price Including Tax.  To add a Tax rate you can go to your Square Dashboard > Account and Settings > Business Information > Sales Taxes.

This linke will take you right there if your on a computer and signed into your Square Dashboard.

Link : https://squareup.com/dashboard/business/manual-taxes

just select Create on the right side to add a new tax Rate.  You can create a new tax amount or just change the Name to Tax Included for exaple.  Then when you create a New item just choose the Correct Tax Rate you want applied.  The List will now change between your Current Tax name, No Tax Apply and the one you just create.  For example I just created an Item and when I select Tax I see:

Put the Blue Check in the Box(es) you would like the rate or rates applied.

Hello @Candlestore ... Thank you for your response! I followed your instructions but unfortunately it will not let me deselect the "Sales Tax" option that is currently charged on all of our items. We have a very large library and I am afraid to adjust that standard sales tax amount because I would have to go through and select every item that it applies to.

I think what I will do (for now) is just charge $23.10 for the "Chuck Wagon Dinner" ticket - so the total amount will be $25.00 after the Texas sales tax is applied.

If you look at your Image that you attached the very last line says Sales Taxes configured to apply to all items or categories are automatically applied to new items.  Edit Sales Tax application rules in Account & Settings>Sales Tax

If you click on that text in your settings it should take you to the page to not apply this tax to all new items automatically.  Then export your catalog save a copy of it as catalogcopy.  Then look at your sales taxes headers and see what the name of your taxes are.  For the ones you need Included change the Tax name to what Square has for an Item you already have this tax applied for.  Meaning after Changing the Taxes so you can Toggle off the one tax, and then Changed to Included Tax, THEN downlad your catalog.   Sort you catalog that all you Tax Included Items are together, you may need to do this before downloading.  Doing this step makes it easier to copy and paste tax settings for this group in a spreedsheet like Google sheets or excel .
