Best Way to Charge Shipping for Varying Weights

Can someone PLEASE give me some directions for the online store shipping? I have created an online store with a variety of items. Each items weigh differently from ounces to pounds. I do not make enough money in sales to go with premium which has real time shipping. I was told that you cannot charge shipping after an order is placed. Can someone please give me some guidance? I mail orders everywhere (domestic), I use different size boxes, depending on what is ordered. Each package weighs differently, and I try to use the best shipping I can without costing a fortune.

Hi @cpSnackShack, thank you for your post and I would be happy to help!

I am going to tag in a few of our amazing Square Champions who may be able to offer some guidance on this. @TheRealChipA@Candlestore, and @alexandriakl, do you all have any insight on this, please?

In the meantime though, I am going to leave some directions on how to set up Shipping Profiles. With these profiles setup, you can tailor shipping options that will automatically be applied whenever a shipment order is made. It could be a great option for your saving time with shipping for your business.

If you would like to do so, feel free to follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfillment methods > Shipment.

  2. Click Add new profile.

  3. Choose your profile Type from the dropdown menu:

    • Select Order to apply the profile to all orders available for shipping, or

    • Select Item to charge a custom rate or set a destination restriction for individual items.

  4. Enter a shipping profile name. This name won't be visible to customers.

  5. Click Add countries to select the countries where you offer shipping. Click Done

  6. Click Add rate. Enter the rate name that will be visible to customers at checkout and choose a rate type. Click Done.

  7. Click Save when finished.

Here is a helpful article on Setting Up Shipping Rates, if you would like to take a look as well.

Please let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime.
