It's certainly challenging to get (and then maintain) traffic to your website, and then the additional challenge of converting those visitors to actual paying customers (sales). So your question is a great one, but it's also one filled with so many variables.
First, what do you sell? Creating a website is one thing, but trying to be found in the middle of the world wide web isn't easy. Think of the millions (errr, Billions) of websites out on the Internet. The main source of discovery is probably a search engine, like Google. So make sure you learn as much as you can about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This means you build your website in such a way as to maximize the chances that a search engine will find (Index) your page..and then offer it up when a potential customer searches for your items. So getting people to visit your site is one thing, but how to get them to buy stuff once they are there? Make sure your site is designed in a visual appealing manner, and easy to navigate. And make sure your pricing is reasonable and competitive in your industry/market. If your items are priced much higher than any other websites or stores, then you risk the chance of your visitors not becoming paying customers.
In addition to optimizing your website for search engines, optimizing your pricing for sales conversions, and creating an attractive and easy to use website, make sure you are leveraging your current contacts, customers, and social media outlets. Are you on any social media channels? Make sure you are using them to connect your views with your website, and encourage them to share and interact with your pages.
So to sum it all up, while there is no easy way to magically get website sales, if you learn as much as you can and work in small steps to build the best website you can, you can help increase your chances of getting people to your website and have them buy from you.
