Hi, my web designer is trying to see the items in my square account to creat the items on my website. Do they need special access? What kind of access do they need?

They will require full access to your square account @Ssgully .

If you would like to set up team permissions for this seller you can do so from Dashboard. Permissions can be set to access online only. If they need to do more you might need to give them full access as @Twiggy mentioned.
