Adding PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay to my Square Online Store

Hi everyone,

I recently signed up for the Professional plan on Square Online and I’m trying to enable PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay as payment options.

I couldn’t find clear instructions in the support material.

It seems like the plans used to show which options were included, but I don’t see them now.

Are there any steps I might be missing to activate these payment methods on my site?

Any guidance or tips from the community would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi there @ayla74108.. So, Apple and Google Pay are part of the standard Square Online checkout experience, and are automatically turned on for our accounts once we publish an online store.  Try a test transaction in yours by adding an item to the cart and starting the checkout process.  At the top of the payment screen there should be icons for both.  If not, let me know (including your site URL) and we'll do some more digging.

Re: PayPal, Square no longer supports using PayPal for online checkout.  That was discontinued last year, I believe.

Hey there 👋

Congrats on moving up to the Professional plan! 🎉 You’re right—the support docs can feel a little “hide-and-seek” when it comes to payment methods. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Apple Pay & Google Pay → These are tied to Square Payments, not your plan level. As long as you’re using Square as your processor and you’ve got SSL (which is included on the Pro plan), you just need to toggle them on. Go to your Square Dashboard → Settings > Checkout > Payment Methods and you should see Apple Pay & Google Pay as options to enable.

  • PayPal → This one’s available only if you connect your site through the Weebly-style checkout in Square Online. In your Dashboard, go to Settings > Checkout > PayPal and link your PayPal account.

Once you connect PayPal and toggle on Apple/Google Pay, they’ll show up automatically at checkout (Apple Pay only shows when someone’s on Safari + iPhone/iPad, and Google Pay shows up on Chrome/Android).

So short answer: your plan supports them—you’re just a couple toggles away from having all three live 🙌

@Stacelyn24 I had to double check after reading your post.  I went to Settings > Checkout in Square Online. There is no PayPal option, any longer.  At least not for websites built with Square Online.  It is only available for Weebly websites.  Late in 2024, Square announced that they would no longer support PayPal in Square Online sites.  When you say that it is available through "Weebly-style checkout, I assume you mean sites built with the Weebly editor, and not the Square Online editor.  I believe that Square and Weebly decided to go their separate ways, for some reason.

Also, @ayla74108, I did find toggles to turn Apple/Google Pay off and on.  They are in Online > Shared Settings > Checkout.  I believe they are turned on by default for new accounts.
