Add sale tax to an online integration

So basically, I have the tax system set up and it's working properly on the terminal.

However, I have an integration with Square where customers make purchases online—either through a QR code or a link—and the tax isn’t being applied.

Is there a way to have it applied automatically?

Hi, @RoyalousGaming ! Welcome to the Square Community!

Is the integration you're using a website? Can you provide a URL so I can take a better look?

In the meantime, I'm going to provide the troubleshooting steps for turning on automatic taxes for online purchases.

  1. Go to your Square Dashboard
Navigate to Settings > Sales Taxes.

  2. Select the correct location
Make sure taxes are set up and assigned to the online store location. This is often separate from your terminal location settings.

  3. Open your Online Store settings
In your Dashboard, go to Online > Settings > Tax

  4. Check or enable automatic tax calculations

    • Square Online can automatically calculate taxes based on delivery address if you’re using shipping.

    • Make sure “Automatically calculate tax” is turned ON.

  5. Verify item eligibility
Make sure each item listed for sale online is marked as taxable in your item library.

If you’ve done all of that and it’s still not applying tax, check whether the integration you’re using (QR code/link) is from Square Online, or a third-party platform that may not be passing tax data correctly.

If it’s a custom integration, you'll need to make sure the tax logic is included in the API call or form configuration.

Let me know what type of integration you're using, and I can give you more specific help.

I hope this helps!

Hey @RoyalousGaming, just jumping in here for a moment! Since it sounds like you're building a custom integration using API, the quickest way to get this resolve would be to contact our Developers team directly through their forum here. They will be able to help investigate this further!
