Well, really I'm just looking for info. I do all my sales on location so my register is moved around a lot. I don't use any USB devices (my printer connects over BT) so I don't need the hub. I already shortened the cord from the hub and mounted it to the base but it's be nice to get rid of it completely. Can anyone confirm whether or not the register can be powered with a standard USB power cable or does it need to 'see' the hub?
If it can, then I can get a printer with USB power out and only have the one power cable to deal with.
Based on the official specs for the Square Register, you cannot bypass the hub and simply power the Register with a standard USB power cable.
1. The Register’s setup requires connection via the Accessory Hub: the power adapter plugs into the hub, which then connects to the Register.
2. The hub plays a role not just for additional USB accessories but also as part of the proper power setup.
