cash drawer won't open until new sale

There must have been a an update yesterday.

 

Previous experience - proceed to cash tendered after completing order. Hit the amount of cash received and cash drawer would open. While I am creating the change for the customer, they are deciding whether they would like a receipt and putting in their information for the loyalty program. Many times, I proceed to making their drink before they have completed their tasks.

 

New experience - after hitting the amount money received by the customer, the cash drawer does not open. We must decide whether a receipt should be printed, whether they want to type in their personal information for the loyalty program and then tap the 'New Sale' button. Only then will the cash drawer open. In other words, I am tethered to the register for another minute or two and cannot begin making the customer's drink because I am still holding their cash and have not been able to give them their change.

 

I have called Square customer service and am told that this new process is by design and that we, the business owner no longer have the ability to give the customer their change and move onto something else until they have gone through the (sometimes lengthy) process of typing in their phone number.

 

The only solution that I have come up with is that I don't take their money until after I have made their drinks or else I am opening the register manually and it will again pop open automatically at the end.

 

Anyone figure out a work around?

As I see this is your first post welcome to the Square users Forum.

 

No work around here....

 

I do not like this new format either.  We got use to ringing everything up, Bag or pack items as customer gets payment method.  Enter payment and then start getting change, then ask the customer if they want a receipt.  This is slowing everything down because of waiting for the next popup to open the drawer or press new sale if like most a receipt is not needed.

 

I have not been able to figure out the Logic of Square engineers adding this Feature that seems most besinesses did not request and do not really want.
