The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Point of Sale Reader requests an update but there is no obvious way to update POS.
I can't use my POS reader from my iPhone. (IOS 18.4) It loops me constantly to an error message that says "Update Required-Please update Point of Sale"
However, I can't see any way to update the reader. There is no update button that I can see. I tried signing in and out. I checked Bluetooth connection which seems to be cutting out a lot. I moved the reader and iPhone very close to router. I've looked on Square help and also google-you tube. All the information about upgrading POS isn't relevant to what's occurring to me. Would love some assistance. Cheers
Sorry to hear about this issue, @MShellsh!
If your Square Reader keeps disconnecting from your device via Bluetooth, this could causing the Reader's update to stall.
To resolve this, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps outlined in this article: Square Reader Troubleshooting. If these steps don't prompt the update to complete, you might need to reset or factory reset your Reader. Instructions for these processes are included in the article.
If you're still experiencing issues after trying these tips, please let me know.

Hi Katie, I tried all the things suggested but none have worked. I re-set the Square Reader. I also, deleted the POS application on my iPhone and re-installed it. I still get the same message after re-installing everything and repairing.
I have installed IOS18.4 on my iPhone. Wondering if that may be causing a clash. I hope not as it is almost impossible to downgrade a software on the iPhone.
I'm not sure what to do next. I would really like your help with this. Specs iPhone 12 Pro IOS18.4 beta. I'd say it's a Gen 1 reader or Gen 2. I checked for compatibility but that isn't an issue. The reader has ben working fine for a number of years until last week.
BTW I received a phishing email from someone purporting to be Square. Obviously the criminals read these forums looking for their prey. Bad people.
Thank you for letting me know, @MShellsh! Sorry to hear none of these steps worked for you.

Hi Mshellsh, did you resolve the issue using Katie's solution?
I develop SAAS iOS app for my clients. One of them met the identical issue these dates.
I had upgraded to a beta version of IOS on my iPhone. It was incompatible with Square software. So I had to roll back my beta software. Once I did that it worked fine. Nevertheless, I was a bit shocked to hear that Square didn't upgrade software on same timeline as Apple.
Thanks for the update!
