Epson U220 (Impact) Not Printing Receipts on Square Register

Hi,

I've got an Epson TM-U220B (Ethernet) connected to my Square Register. It connects fine, and I can set it up to print in-person, online, and void tickets.

The problem is that in the printer profile settings, the options for "Receipts" and "Order ticket stubs" are greyed out and marked as unsupported. From what I could gather, impact kitchen printers do not support receipt printing?

I've already configured my 'receipt branding' under my Square Dashboard, and my receipt design prints fine when using my Square Terminal, but I'm unsure how to get the same receipts with that design to print with my Epson U220.

Any help on this specific model/Square Register combo is much appreciate!

For context, this is for a dry cleaners business where we need to print customer receipts and store copies to tag items with, which is why we've opted for the U220 impact printer over a thermal, as thermal receipts would wipe clean.

Is there a way for me to use the U220 for internal ticket numbers/item tags and purchase a regular thermal printer just for the customer receipts? Or are there better ways?

Thanks

Thanks for your post, @19Laundry!

You're correct that there are some limitations with certain kitchen impact printers when used with Square Register. The greyed-out options for "Receipts" and "Order ticket stubs" indicate that this specific printer model doesn't support receipt printing when connected to Square Register.

I've reached out to our Advanced Support team to confirm whether this limitation applies to the TM-U220B. While the printer itself is capable of printing order tickets, not all printing functions may be supported.

If this printer is incompatible with receipts, I'd recommend the following setup:

1. Keep your Epson TM-U220B for item tags/tickets

- On your Register, go to Settings > Checkout > Order Tickets and choose "Enter custom number or name"
- Use this printer specifically for order tickets that will serve as your item tags
- The custom name/number you enter will appear on these tickets, helping you organise and track items

2. Add a standard receipt printer for customer receipts

- This would allow you to provide professionally branded receipts to customers
- Your receipt branding settings from the Dashboard would apply to these receipts
- You can view compatible receipt printers on the Square Shop

This setup would give you the best of both worlds - durable impact-printed tags for your internal operations and nicely formatted receipts for your customers.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
