Why am I unable to connect my Square Reader to my phone?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: could not use the square reader all weekend.

could not use the square reader all weekend. had to enter card manualy. still can't accept card on my phone but phone and watch work. my phone said no wifi

If the connection issues continue, please reply with more details on the following:

  • What device are you using with your Square Reader? (e.g., iPhone 14, Samsung S23, etc.)
  • Are Location Services enabled for the Square app in your device’s settings?
  • Are you receiving any error messages in the app?
  • Does the disconnection occur after specific actions, such as closing and reopening the app?
  • Is your device updated to the latest software version (iOS or Android)?
  • Are you running the latest version of the Square app?

Phone Payment Issues

Regarding your phone payment issue, where you mentioned, "still can't accept card on my phone but phone and watch work":

  • Are you referring to Tap to Pay on iPhone or Android, where you can tap a card or phone against the back of your phone to make a payment?
  • If so, is the issue that when you tap physical cards against the back of your phone, they don't register, but phone/watch payments do?

Wi-Fi Connection Issue

You also mentioned, "my phone said no Wi-Fi":

  • Is this related to the Square Reader or Tap to Pay?
  • Could you provide a screenshot of what you're seeing in the app?
