Two questions....

I have the square register, and love it.  I'm looking for something a bit smaller for some of my outdoor shows so I don't have to lug that screen around.  I have two questions right now about the Square Terminal.

1.  Is it possible to link my cellphone to the terminal?  From what I am reading, it looks like I can enter the sale on my phone, have my phone connect wirelessly to the terminal, and have the customer interact with the terminal for payment.  In effect, getting the customer side screen like what we have with the register.  Is this correct?  (I'm not seeing this specific aspect demo'd anywhere.)

2.  If number 1 is correct, will it work with a Moto G6?  I found a compatibility list, but it says the terminal works as a standalone, whereas I'm reading that it can link to a smartphone (but the G6 is getting rather outdated).

Since the Terminal is so compact, do you even need to have a separate customer screen? Can you pass it to them? Or even just bringing a portable chip reader?

The Square stand might also be an option

I picked up the Register for my more permanent location BECAUSE of the customer facing screen.  With Covid being a thing, it was one less thing to pass between the employees and customers.  Plus, one less thing to drop and break......

However the Register is large and bulky, not really designed for street festivals.  I've brought it there, and made it work (you can hook it up to a marine battery, the power draw is so low it can easily run all day on the battery).  I worry about the screen breaking in transit, etc.

With the stand, you are paying more (I'd have to get the ipad to go with it), and the customer is still handing the card to the employee.

If the Terminal can connect to a cellphone wirelessly, that would in essence provide a portable customer facing screen with minimal footprint.

Couldn’t you just do the dip card reader so there’s no contact at all?

I'm not sure on compatibility with the G6 - I'm using all apple devices. To check, if you go to the settings, hardware & see if Square Terminal is is listed there (on my phone it shows second to bottom).

Some things about the connected Terminal:

• Firstly - it's great! Well worth doing & I use it over the Register on my pizza wagon for the same reasons you've mentioned.

• It doesn't connect through BT but will have to hotspot on your phones 4g. The transaction pings via the servers down to the device - this makes it super stable, but something to be aware of!
* Unlike the Register the display doesn't show the sale as you're making it - it just updates on the screen when you send it to the terminal for payment. You can still have the review screen for the customer to confirm the items though.

@JessPoynter It's great having the screen in front of the customer, speeds things up as you're not waiting on them interacting with you (I'm often cooking & serving).
