Touch screen not responding & very slow

When I press the touch with normal finger pressure it does not respond. I have to push very hard. It was working fine 2 weeks ago and when we xame back from vacation it was doing this. Software version was updated 7/1. If I put 2 fingers on the back of the unit it starts responding fine. I read somewhere about trying this and it may be causes from electronic interference. Any suggestions to make it work like before?

Hi @Smyrnaeverythin.  First, is your touch-screen device a Square device (Register, Terminal) or is it an Android/Apple device?  When you say “software version was updated 7/1” do you mean Square software or operating system software?

For now, a few general suggestions.  Try rebooting the device.  If that doesn’t work, you might need to factory reset it.  If those two things don’t make any difference, then it sounds like you have a hardware issue of some kind, and it might need to be replaced.  Hopefully, it is still under warranty, if that is the case.

FYI, electrical interference is pretty rare in a normal retail setting.  These devices are designed to work around lots of other electronic devices without interfering with each other.

Anyway, after you answer those two questions, maybe I can give you a few more suggestions to troubleshoot.

I’m having the exact same issue! I’ve tried power cycling, factory resetting, updating. Still acting up. Cannot find a solution!

Hi @Smyrnaeverythin and @Cbyrne - I'm sorry to hear that this issue with your Square Registers has brought you to the Seller Community.

I suggest starting out with the troubleshooting steps for your Register listed here. If this doesn't improve things, please reach out to Support directly by logging into your Square account and heading here for further assistance. Keep in mind: You have access to 24/7 Phone Support for the Square Register.

I hope this helps!

Not really working. Have to touch the back with other hand for it to react. Strange and quirky but not running properly.

Hey there @pizzatrails.

This is an odd behavior. Have you recently moved your Square Register location or installed new equipment in your business sometimes (other electrical equipment can produce static and cause this behavior on the screen of the Square Register where you have to touch the back for it to react)?

Nothing had changed. Literally one day to the next it failed to work. And replacement screen is doing the same thing to me....all after an Update imo

I have not moved my Square and it keeps doing the same thing even after being replaced with a new one. About once a week sometimes two I have to hold the rear of the screen with one hand or the touch screen will not work. Restarting etc does nothing. It just starts working on its own

I just starting having this same problem it started yesterday but today has gotten really bad.  Touching the back of the register seems to make it work which is a huge help but really weird has anyone figured out why this is happening and how to fix it?

My screen is acting up again. At least once a week and it is updated. Location has been the same and nothing changed/added around it. Still have to hold rear of screen and type with other hand

I have the same problem. I have a hydroponics shop and just put in a new led light that is interfering with the register. If I dim the led to 400w it doesn't happen but on 600w or 690w it interferes. Turn the light off or down and problem fixed. I also noticed that if I touch the back of register it also works. Very weird.
