Terminal Lost Categories Option

I am positive that before I turned it on this morning and the Square Terminal updated I could see Categories under the "Library".  Now I just see:

Items

Gift Cards

Rewards

Discounts

Service Charges

Services

 

Is anyone else having this same issue?  Did I perhaps turn something off when updating square on my laptop that now is carrying over to Terminal?

 

This is getting frustrating because I used to be able to have an item under a category with variations and I could put that item on the "Favorites" menu and when you clicked on it, the Variations would come up.  First that no longer works so I start rearranging my whole list of items to use various categories, and now I can't find categories!

I'm going to outline some troubleshooting steps below to try. 

 

  1. Immediate Troubleshooting Steps:

    a. Check Category Settings in Square Dashboard

    • Log into Square Dashboard on your computer
    • Go to Items > Categories
    • Verify that your categories are still there and active
    • Make sure category sync is enabled

    b. Terminal Reset

    • Power cycle the Terminal device
    • Reopen the Terminal and check if categories reappear

    c. Check Terminal Settings

    • Go to Terminal Settings
    • Look for any display or organization preferences
    • Verify that category display isn't disabled

This seems like it could be either:

  • An unintended consequence of the recent update
  • A settings issue that got reset during the update

Let me know if any of these work!

I'm not sure what the Terminal App is that you are talking about, unfortunately.

 

I have tried everything else.

My apologies! I was on a roll and I am used to telling people to force quit their Point of Sale App as an option. (LOL) I edited my troubleshooting steps, but that won't make a difference for you in this moment...let me reach out to our Terminal team and see what could be going on here.

btw I do have a support ticket in on this where I included screenshots.  I was just hoping for community support in case the official support ticket took a while, as is often the case... The categories show up on the "Library" list, but not on the upper part of the Library where I could swear they had been.  And not at all on the Favorites tab... You can't set a category/subcategory of items to be a "Favorite".

This has recently happened to me too and I am so frustrated. Came in on Tuesday this week to find that entire categories each with multiple items on under each with different variations and modifiers had all dissapeared. Called my rep, texted her, emailed her, called customer service an no one has called me back. Forced to spend countless hours rebuilding these in the system. Also many of our settings all defaulted back to system defaults so didn't realize our tip screen wasn't showing to customer until at end of day and had lost hundreds of dollars in potential tips. Printer settings are all off and everything is printing on different printers they shouldn't be. A complete mess and has costed me countless hours and lost revenue. And Square is nowhere to be found when it comes to getting answers.
