Square register is going down hill! Its gone from 4.5 stars to 2 stars

A year ago I would have given square register a 4.5 star rating.  At the current time it is falling to 3 stars (old experience) - 2 stars with the "New" experience

 

Both registers I have in use have become laggy. They are slow and not responsive to touch.  (I have done a hard reset)

It is even worse when I upgrade to the "New" experience.  The "new experience" is a 2 star rating! In addition to the lagginess the animations slow down opening the item details screens or adding an item to the cart.   Furthermore bugs in the system no longer allow you to skip the Item detail screen if you have more than one price point.  At this point the "New" experience is nearly unusable in my business.

1) Turn off the select animations on the "New" experience (we dont need the additional slowness) - on the old experience the flash was enough to show an item selected

2) Please fix the bug that no longer allows you to skip the item detail screen if an item has more than one price

3) Please fix the lag... What has change over the past 2 years?

4) DO NOT FORCE THE "New" experience until you fix the bugs listed above!

 

PS. I have already called support. I have uploaded videos showing this.  I can no longer in good faith recommend Square register

This is a reason I have not upgraded (downgraded) my Square Stands to the Register.  My Stands with Ipads seem to have less problems from what I have experienced and have seen in the forums.  And I am still using the 1st edition Stands.  I like the newer features that the 2nd Gen has with not needing the additional Tap/Dip reader, but the 2nd Gen needs the Magnetic Swipe addition.  

Thanks for the current update on the Registers performance or lack of.

@MichiganFarmsta You are not alone with your frustration with the new Retail Experience.  There’s a post in the Super Seller Forum (and other places) that echo that sentiment.  As for Register, I also once considered switching to that, until Stand 2 came out and until Restaurants allowed Connected Terminal as a customer-facing payment device.  Reading your post, and countless others (no exaggeration!), I’m glad I didn’t.  I hope that your issues get addressed soon.

 

@Candlestore Stand 2 does have swipe capability.  It’s just a hidden feature.  See the photo below.  I have an old Square dongle inserted into the port under the dip reader.  It works beautifully!  While I don’t use the payment capabilities of Stand 2, it is a perfect backup for the day my Connected Terminal decides not to work!  No other backup devices needed for that eventuality!

I love the Look of the 2nd Stand and was thinking of getting a Terminal as a customer facing display.  Since using an old Tablet customers can not sign a receipt on the old tablet screen when used as a Display only.  

So question on how you take payments.

Do you ring up the sale on the 2nd gen stand then the customer just follows the Screen prompts on the terminal?

Or do you do everything on the terminal?

Also where does the receipt Print from? 

I would rather print from my current printer than from the terminal if possible.

@Candlestore I’m glad you asked!  I can post a photo and a video to let you see the process! LOL

 

I use Square for Restaurants in my Stand 2 iPad.  When ready to pay, I ask the customer if they are paying with a card or cash.  If they say card, when I go to the Pay screen there is a new “Square Terminal” option with a Pay button. (See photo).  When I press that, the information is sent to the Connected Terminal for the customer to complete the transaction.  Printed receipt, if requested, comes from the terminal printer if configured that way.

 

I’ve attached a video showing how that works with a test transaction I did.  (Ignore the fact I needed to press buttons multiple times.  I can’t shoot a video and press buttons at the same time! LOL.  Also, I’ve turned off the collect signature option in my shop.)

 

I’ve been using this since setup since it first went into beta for iPad POS a couple of years ago.  My guests love it!

@Candlestore Wait a minute.  I think I misspoke there.  The Connected Terminal seems to ONLY print the receipt on that device’s printer.  If you need to print on a different printer, you will have to pull up the transaction on your POS and send to the other receipt printer that way.  My bad!

 

Sounds like a feature request to me.  I’ll have to do a little more research first. LOL
