Square Terminal won't recognize compatible Honeywell Voyager 1472g barcode scanner

No matter what I do, I cannot get any of my Square terminals to connect to my new Voyager 1472g cordless barcode scanner. I've tried everything I can think of including trying different barcode inputs from the user guide, different usb ports on the Square hub, a factory reset on the terminals, and the latest software updates. But every time I try to get the terminal to connect with the scanner it says "No compatible barcode scanners found." The scanner works fine when I plug it into a laptop to test if it reads barcodes, so the scanner hardware isn't the problem. I need this to work - help!

Since the Voyager 1472g works perfectly when plugged into your laptop, the hardware is fine—the issue is that the scanner is communicating in standard PC Keyboard mode, which the Square Terminal's specialized Android OS cannot recognize.
Because Square Terminal uses an Android ecosystem, it natively looks for plug-and-play accessories using a specific protocol called USB HID Barcode Scanner mode rather than standard PC emulation. When it receives standard PC inputs, it returns that generic "No compatible barcode scanners found" loop. [1]
Since you've already verified the hardware and updated the firmware, here is the exact sequencing to force the scanner and Terminal to talk to each other:

The Configuration Sequence
You will need your Honeywell Voyager 1472g User Guide or Quick Start Guide to scan a few specific programming barcodes. Print out or open the guide on a screen and scan these in order:[1, 2]
  1. Unplug the scanner base from your Square Terminal Hub completely.
  2. Scan the Standard Product Default Settings barcode (this wipes out any lingering custom rules you tested from the manual). [1, 2]
  3. Scan the USB HID Barcode Scanner configuration barcode (this may also be labeled as USB Keyboard Emulation or HID POS Mode depending on your manual's revision date). [1]
  4. Place the scanner firmly back onto its cradle base and wait for the confirmation beep sequence to ensure the cordless handheld re-pairs its link to the base with the new internal settings. [1, 2]
  5. Power cycle your Square Terminal: Completely turn the Terminal off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on.
  6. Once the Terminal finishes booting up to your main dashboard, plug the USB cable from the Honeywell cradle base back into one of the ports on your Square Terminal Hub.
The Terminal should initialize the connection cleanly, auto-detect the Honeywell device, and clear out that error message! Let me know if that specific HID configuration barcode does the trick

Thanks for replying! Following your instructions, I went step by step, and still nothing. One thing I'm noticing is that after I scan the default reset code and replace the scanner in the base, I hear the "confirmation" beeps. However, when I go in and scan the USB HID Barcode Scanner code and put it back in the base, I don't get any confirmation beeping. Could that indicate an issue, or is it only supposed to beep like that after a reset? FWIW, I'm scanning off a screen, not from a paper user guide.
