I was wondering what would be better to not slow my machine up.
on items would it be better to add it single or add the brand and then add variations to it. My last register was slowing down because I had so much on it until they sent me a replacement.
example
single items:
-Hershey Milk Chocolate
-Hershey Almond
-Hershey
versus:
-Hershey
-Variations
Milk Chocolate
Almond
What do you mean Slowing down your Register? How where you getting the Item you were selling at checkout?
I have over 12,000 line items in a csv. A line Item is either an Item or a varation, when I scan the item it populates in the Checkout almost immediately. I have my system as both a Unique item for some items and as Variations for others, but all have barcodes to scan and appear quickly after scanning. Now the Categories might help you Find items faster if you do not use a scanner. Your Square system is connected to the internet where your Items are stored so speed may have to do with your internet connection too.
I have a scanner I have my items set into categories, I also have single line items and variations. I was thinking to minimize most single line items into variations. My last register was slow to respond and sometimes took 5-10 seconds after scanning until they sent me the new register so I’m trying to figure out the best way not to bog it down again. Or take memory or disk space. If that makes sense
Your main catalog does not get stored in your register, When you scan an item, Square sends datat through your internet connection to your catalog online to pull the price of the item. Now depending on how many items you have this process can slow down if you have over 20,000 items I believe. How fast is your internet for your credit card processing? I was at 50 MB downloads and had no issues with my catalog of about 12,000 items. This is why I am thinking its either a slow internet connection, or something else was going on with your register.
Ok, that makes sense. I did fix my internet connection to the square. I was thinking items were getting stored on the register basically like a computer type of thing…. And was just worried of how I should do my items (old and new) to do them in variations or single line items but maybe it just boils down to how I personally want it configured. Thanks for the help
Your welcome and yes it comes down to how You want it setup for you to find the item if the Scanner dies or if a Barcode is unreadable by the scanner so you can manually add the item to the cart.
