Setting up a terminal for self-service

Hi,

Has anyone got any advice or experience setting up a hand held terminal so it can be used by a customer themselves?

I have one in a small club location where friends/members can help themselves to the chocolate and coffee etc then pay themselves on the terminal.

I'm just wondering how I can thin everything down so it's able to be used like this.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin, thanks for your post 🙂

This should be easy enough to manage.

The Terminal doesn't have passcodes unless you manually enable them so your club members will be able to access the Terminal as long as it's left powered on.

From there I would suggest enabling Quick Amounts:

You can access your Quick Amounts settings directly from the Square app. To do so:

  1. From the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen, tap More.
  2. Select Settings > Checkout > Quick Amounts.

They are shortcut charge buttons that can be added to the checkout screen and stay there permanently - so you get set up frequently used amounts like £1, £2, £5.

Other than that if you have items set up, I'd suggest adding them to the Favourites screen on the Terminal and members can select directly from there - I have attached another thread where I have some photo examples.

After that, they will just need to press charge and select if they would prefer a digital or physical receipt. You can also edit what payment types you have available to avoid any mistakes, for example you can have just Cash or Card available;

From More > Settings > Checkout > Payment types.

Let me know if this is what you had in mind or if you have outstanding questions 🙂 @JJS1230
