Scanner "item not found" needs unique beep

I use Square Stand, with attached iPad, and a Zebra cordless/USB scanner. When I scan a barcode, the scanner beeps. Fine.

But when the barcode is not found in inventory, I see an "Item not found" popup on the screen, but I hear the exact same beep from the scanner. There is no unique sound that alerts me to the error.

If I'm not looking at the screen when that popup appears, I may continue scanning items, and hearing beeps, for quite a while before I realize transactions are not being recorded. This is insanely frustrating. Sometimes we have to start scanning all items again, looking at the screen after each scan, to see what item failed. This takes a lot of time.

I found a post about this same problem back in 2021, but there were no responses.

 think what is needed is for the Square software to beep when an error like this appears. The scanner beep is not sufficient. 

Does anyone have a solution to this? And has anyone else experienced this problem?

@mikesclub A couple of questions first.  

1. Is this the USB-C Square stand? If so some Zebra scanners won’t work with that stand.  We had to upgrade our Zebra scanners to Honeywell to get items to scan?

2. Are you the scanner in USB mode or wireless mode? If I’m not mistaken I think only Socket scanners will work wirelessly with Square.  

3. Have you looked at the scanner manual and programmed the scanner to apply Enter at the end of a scan.  With Square when a barcode is scanned it needs the enter button pushed to complete the process.  The stand sees the scanner as a keyboard, that’s it needs to be programmed with enter at the end. 

4. On the stand have you went into Hardware settings on the stand to make sure the scanner is being seen? If not, I would get the scanner manual and first scan the barcode that resets the scanner, sometimes that will the Square Stand see the scanner.  After the reset you may have to rescan the barcode to add the enter back    

Hopefully one of these will fix the problem.
