Redeeming multiple discounts/vouchers in one transaction

Hi Everyone,

We are trying to make our processes more efficient and are hoping there is a solution to this.

We have a specific $2 drink item which customers can pay for via cash, or prepaid voucher.

During service time, we have a concentrated burst of customers redeeming their vouchers and we have many of these drinks ready to go. To save time at the register, we collect the vouchers in a pile and put them through Square at the end of service in a quiet moment. However, how we have things set up at the moment is fiddly and takes longer than we think it should. We have the drink as an item, and the prepaid vouchers as a discount/voucher. Each purchase needs to be done separately as Square will only allow us to apply the voucher once per transaction or item.

We would like to able to ring them up in one transaction so we save time and process, while still having record/reporting the number of drinks sold and vouchers used to redeem.

For example, in one transaction: drinks qty 10, redeem vouchers qty 10 bringing total of the transaction to $0 but still recording 10 item sales and 10 voucher redemptions.

Is there a way we can do this in Square Register? Something in the discount/voucher setup, perhaps?

Thanks for your help.

Hey @BMSSUniform.  My solution/work-around has one ground rule — your transaction must ONLY have items in it that are discounted 100%.  It can’t contain other items that customers might have purchased in addition to redeeming their voucher. Create a discount code called “Bulk Voucher” (or something similar).  Make it 100%.  For security purposes, I would also recommend requiring a manager override for this particular code, in case some team member sees 100% and gets ideas about scamming you.  Ha.

Then you can open a transaction, and add “drinks qty 10” to it.  Then, at the transaction/cart level, apply the new “Bulk Voucher” discount code which will discount the entire transaction, resulting in $0.  Pay that to cash.

I think that will give you the result you are looking for.

Thanks Chip. A workaround to consider.

How would this be reflected in reporting? I really need to be able to report on the quantity of vouchers redeemed, but this would be lumping the discounts together.

@BMSSUniform The standard Square discounts report gives you quantity of items discounted in addition to total dollar amount discounted, as long as you enter out the way I outlined above. All other reports that list discounts do, too.
