Recommendations to improve Wi-Fi stability for multiple devices.

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Stability of square register.

What's the best way to set up square register, with secondary iPads, handheld terminals and multiple printers (front of house and kitchen).

We need:

At least two screens to put through orders

At least two printers (one front, one kitchen)

At least to handhelds to take table payments.

We have:

A networked square register

A square stand (on WiFi)

Two networked printers

Two handhelds (on WiFi)

We keep on having issues with the iPads and handheld terminals disconnecting from the WiFi. Devices then don't sync. Printers disconnect. Tickets don't print. Payments get taken offline. It's costing us money is errors and lost payments every day.

We're busy and need a better set up.

Hi @LifeonHigh

Thanks for reaching out here. I can appreciate how frustrating these disconnections can be, especially when they're impacting your operations. Here's some recommendations and resources that may help improve your network stability:

Network Optimisation Recommendations

1. Switch to Ethernet Where Possible
- Square Stand: Consider connecting your Square Stand/s to Ethernet where possible.

2. Optimize Your WiFi Setup for Remaining Devices
For devices that use WiFi (like Square Handheld or Square Terminal):

- WiFi Signal Strength: Position your router centrally in your business, away from walls and metal objects.
- Network Boosters: Consider installing WiFi boosters/mesh network systems to ensure consistent coverage throughout your space.
- Dedicated Network: If possible, create a separate network specifically for your Square devices to reduce interference from customer WiFi usage.

3. Printer Configuration
For your networked printers:

- Connect them via Ethernet if possible
- Ensure they're on the same network as all of your Square devices
- Consider setting static IP addresses for your printers to prevent connection issues caused by changing IP addresses

Depending on your network setup and its complexity, you may come across more complex needs. We recommend working with a networking professional for any advanced configuration.

I recommend reviewing the following resources on our Support Centre for any additional changes that could be worth implementing to improve your network connection:

Troubleshoot your network connection
Troubleshoot network connection on Square Register
Troubleshoot network connection on Square Terminal
Troubleshoot connection issues on printers

Hopefully some other Sellers will be able to jump in here and share what else has worked for them. If you have any other questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out.
