Printing Custom Item Barcode Labels with Square

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Custom Item labels

Is there any way (or any compatible printer) that we can print labels for individual products that we can customize with our store name, phone, item name, weight, price and barcode? We'd also love to be able to include safety handling instructions. Basically, we need to be able to weigh our items with the scale attached to our square register and print labels for each item. Is this at all possible? I haven't been able to find anything

Thanks for your question, @SFM1932!

You can create and print barcode labels from the Square Dashboard or the Square Retail POS app on a compatible iOS device and Square Register. These labels can include the following details:

- Barcode
- Item name
- Variation name
- SKU or GTIN
- Price
- Unit Abbreviation

Some scales have built in barcode label printers–these scales measure the weight of an item and issue a barcode label that contains both an item's SKU number as well as the total weight or price of an item. When items with these types of barcodes are scanned, the item's weight and price information is automatically captured on your point of sale.

Unfortunately, Square's native label printing doesn't currently support including additional information such as:

- Store name
- Phone number
- Safety handling instructions

For a complete solution that includes all the information you're looking to display, you might want to explore third-party label printing software that can integrate with Square. These solutions may provide more customization options while still generating barcodes that are compatible with the Square ecosystem.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I'm the founder of a small software company called Filljoy focused on POS-integrated weighing software and labeling. We've been working on a new touchscreen label printing scale that syncs seamlessly with your Square catalog

We showed a preview of this at the NRF conference earlier this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lcklMPjxF8

We already have a Shopify-integrated version of this scale being used at over 50 store locations across North America, and we're exploring whether there’s enough demand from sellers for a similar integration with Square.

If you currently use label printing scales (CAS, DIGI, Bizerba, etc.) and are interested in what we're building, we invite you to fill out this short form: https://forms.gle/qyfT3W4B4SaHTmpA6

Or feel free to reply here - thanks!
