Nothing but trouble since I started using Square.

I ordered a Square Handheld at the end of May, got all setup, got the checking account, debit card, tap to pay on the app, case for the handheld. Tested it, it worked. Had Square send me a Magistripe reader. They said 5-7 business days. On day 18 I spoke to support about why i hadn't received it. Was told they'd send me a new one and expedite shipping to get in 2 days so I would have it by the time of an event I was doing. The event was yesterday, still no magistripe reader almost a month after requesting the first one. Support just told me it's still within the 5-7 day window. And that I was given false information.

Anyway, I did the event and right away every single transaction on this brand new $400 device went blank! It slowed down checkout, left me unsure whether a transaction went through and the only way to see was for me to log into the phone app because EVERY SINGLE transaction required a reset...all day long. No option for customer receipt and no email collection, which is crucial to my business.

Now they're wanting me to do a factory reset, on an item that was just used for the first time out of the box and that I spent hours setting up and scanning in my products. I'm sincerely thinking about just dropping Square and trying something else because this is an awful lot of problems and chaotic support responses for my first month using the service.

Hey @DSNewman .  I am so sorry to hear about the hell you went through with the Handheld.  I have been using the Handhelds for over a year now and my staff absolutely love them...but....there was a recent update to the software that caused exactly what you were describing.   We saw it here as well a couple weeks ago and reported it.   I received word back from Engineering that there was a fix in the works and to force an update on the Handhelds several days later.    This fixed our issue.  I'm wondering if you do the same, or a factory reset, if the issue will go away.

I don't blame you for being upset/disappointed, however if you are willing to give it another try, I would recommend it.  Normally the Handhelds work great.

Thanks for your input!

Truthfully, I really like the system, the design, the functionality. It's just not made a good first impression during a crucial time, even after testing it. Failed the first "live fire" exercise. And it didn't help how erratic my interactions were with support. I'll do a factory reset at least once and see what happens.
