New Update for Square Register Changed to Square for Restaurant

Mostly posting this in case somebody else has this problem. The update that got pushed today switched me from Square for Retail to Square for Restaurant. It bugged out a bunch after it updated and then opened up Square for Restaurant. We are a retail store. I was able to restart the register after about 10 minutes or so once it settled down and this solved the problem. It booted into Square for Retail after that. Luckily it was an easy fix but this was highly annoying. If I didn't also have a back up Square Credit Card terminal, I would have missed sales this morning.

I'm sorry to hear you had issues after installing the latest update. 

We have not received other reports of this exact issue but did get some tickets about Registers using Retail not being able to proceed past the device tour today.

The issue has now been fixed and, from what I understand, was caused by the device tour itself, so what you experienced might have been unrelated. 

 

If you run into further issues, I would recommend checking out these troubleshooting steps (specifically, resetting the Register).
