My prepandemic square contactless and chip reader has been sitting protected in its box for 2 years. Today I installed square on my new phone, charged the hardware, and tried to connect the reader. It shows as connected, but says damaged. If I try to 'forget' it, it will not allow me. I have tried resetting. Turning off phone, etc. I have screen shots but cannot post them here.
Same here. Sounds like it’s common. Guess they didn’t factor in a pandemic wait period on these things.
