I recently purchased the new printer MC-Label 2 from Star Micronics for my coffee cart to streamline our workflow and print sticky labels for drinks.
I’m currently using Square with an Android tablet (Square Reader setup) and ran into an issue setup:
- When I manually enter the printer’s IP address using advanced settings, Square briefly detects the printer (it shows the model and name).
- However, after tapping “Done,” the printer does not appear in the printer list.
I also tried connecting via my iPhone, but:
- The printer is not detected at all
- The connection fails completely
After doing some research, I noticed that the MC-Label 2 is not listed among Square’s supported label printers, even though it’s a newer Star Micronics model.
- Has anyone successfully connected the MC-Label 2 with Square?
- Is there any workaround (e.g., Star app, bridge, AirPrint, etc.)?
- Does Square ever add support for newer Star printers via updates, or is compatibility fixed?
- Is there any way to make this work without switching to a larger printer? (space is very limited on my cart and I purchased this mainly for its compact design)
I’d really appreciate any guidance before I consider replacing the printer.
